No guys, I need to stop and talk about something in this movie and how fucking revolutionary it was; something that I haven’t seen in a movie before or since.

This is a movie about a kid who leaves her birth family.

Not a kid who find that they have a secret lineage or something that allows them to find their ‘true family’ - this is a movie about a kid whose true birth family is made up of bad people. So she gets out. And that is played as the right thing to do. She isn’t punished for it or made to feel bad about ‘abandoning her family’. There isn’t an underlying ‘but they’re your family and you have to love them’ or ‘they’re your family and they love you even if they don’t show it well or do hurtful things’ message of the kind that I see OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER in media. Matilda gets out and lives happily ever after because of it.

We need a million more movies like this to counter the metric shit ton of movies that directly counter this message.

Well I don’t agree that the writers aren’t talented. The first two seasons of Glee was pretty awesome and have you seen American Horror Story? That show’s pretty amazing. I think the problem is that Ryan Murphy just stopped putting as much effort into it when he started AHS. The writers may have gotten lazy.

I do agree about Finchel though. I’ve been done with them since the first season…

Just Started: Gossip Girl [Season 5]| Glee [Season 3

*ONCE UPON A TIME [Season 1]*: 4/5
This show is really awesome. Awesome, awesome, awesome. Everyone should watch it. It’s great for people who like to figure out “whodunit”. Or for others who love movies or shows with fantasy plots. Or for people who are really nostalgic about their childhood, or old Disney films. Doesn’t matter who you are, or how old you are. You’re gonna love this TV show!

The show is so creative and the actors are amazing. Especially Robert Carlyle (Rumplestilskin), this guy is beyond amazing. So versatile and entrancing. If for nothing else, I would have watched just for him.

This show kind of surprised me. I knew it was going to be good, because the entire time it’s been on Netflix Instant, it has held a perfect rating. And a lot of people haave been recommending me to watch it. And the concept is great, I was excited to watch it regardless. But I wasn’t expecting to get hooked on it. I couldn’t wait to watch the next episode. So I watched episodes back-to-back. Haven’t been as excited about a show as I was for this one in a while (although Pretty Little Liars is getting close…) I can’t wait to watch the second season. I hope they add it soon.

Basically, you need to watch this show. Like…now.

WRECKED: 2/5
27 Hours, Frozen, “I Shouldn’t Be Alive”…WRECKED? Eh, not so much. The movie is a disaster film in which a man wakes up to find he’s been a horrific car accident in the middle nowhere and has no recollection of the events to led to it. Throughout the film, he recalls bits and pieces of what occurred and tries to put them together in order to remember.

As much as I love Adrien Brody, this movie didn’t need to happen. It was completely unnecessary. I could appreciate the abstractness of film. How they kept putting replaying the small parts of what he remembered, or how he would see a woman from her past lurking around in the woods when, in reality, she was not there at all. Overall, though the movie just didn’t keep me interested. It seemed unrealistic compared to most disaster films like it. Even the event that led to the accident was a bit far-fetched, making it not as fun to try to guess what occurred in the first place.

If you’re looking for a good film where someone has to survive the elements on their own, try movies like The Grey, 27 Hours, Frozen, or, maybe, Cast Away. Not WRECKED.

*6TEEN* [Season 3]: 4/5
I wasn’t sure, when I started watching this show, that I would like it. Actually, initially, I was offended that two of my friends recommended it, because I assumed the cartoon would immature and melodramatic. But it’s not. It’s funny and somewhat realistic. The problems the characters face are problems that actually teens have like finding/keeping a job, dating, backstabbing friends, etc. No issues too heavy like “Oh God I’m pregnant!” or “I’m in love with a vampire”. I’d recommend preteens, adolescents, and young adults to watch it.

*FRASIER*: 3/5
I’m not completely done with this show. I am only temporarily finished, because someone deleted it from my Netflix Queue. No worries, though! I re-added it.

At first I wasn’t sure I’d be a fan of this show. I figured some of the jokes would be too corny. I didn’t even like Frasier’s character when he was on Cheers (a show I love btw), so when I found out before that he got his own show, I was terribly confused as to why writers would do that.

Despite my initial reaction, I actually enjoy this show. Not so much the acting or the plot of the show, but simply because it’s funny to see just how bourgeoisie Frasier Crane really is. He’s so out-of-touch in the world, but he doesn’t seem to realize that for the most part. Hilarious.

Although I do have to wait to reach this show on my queue once again, I have not given up on it just yet.

-HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER [Season 1]-: 5/5
I was thinking this show was totally overrated. Like, “Why does everyone watch it? Why do people even care?” Even though the kids probably hate their dad for dragging this story out, I love hearing about it. I love this show. I finally see what the big deal. The show is cute and funny and NEIL PATRICK HARRIS!!!!

LIFE OF THE PARTY: 2/5
The main reason I added this to my queue was because the movie stars Ellen Pompeo (Meredith Grey from Grey’s Anatomy)
, and I wanted to see how she would act outside of her show. What I didn’t know was that the film also stars Eion Bailey (Once Upon a Time)

and Kristin Bauer (Once Upon a Time and True Blood).

Considering the fact that I had just finished the first season of Once Upon a Time, I was pretty stoked that these actors were also in the film.

The acting from these performers was perfection, and I was especially impressed with Eion Bailey’s performance. For every step of his character’s tragic downfall, I found myself pulling for his character.

Unfortunately, the film’s tone didn’t agree with my mood while watching. I wasn’t expecting a movie so…depressing. The film centers around a former school track star who gives into alcoholism, leading those closest to him to stage an intervention.

I wasn’t expecting something light-hearted, but I wasn’t expecting to want to jump off a cliff by the end of the film either. Maybe I would have appreciated this movie if I was in a different mood, or maybe if I didn’t develop any expectations about the film. The rating could possibly be my fault. But if anyone wants to give this a try, I recommend that you prepare yourself for a depression two hours.

GUZAARISH: 5/5
A Hindi love story about a former magician who after a tragic accident on stage, is paralyzed and fights for his right to be euthanized.

I was primarily interested in watching this film, because it stars Hrithik Roshan, star of Kites, a bollywood film that I LOOOOOVEEE.

I had to try this out to see if Roshan is as amazing as I perceived him to be in Kites.

Turns out he is. At first when I realized he’d be laying down for the majority of the film, I was disappointed. This guy has a great body, and I wouldn’t mind staring at it for two hours. But his paralytic state gave viewers a chance to really examine his acting talent. It was magical watching the love transpire between his character and his nurse (played by Aishwarya Rai Bachchan).

It developed so subtly, that if a viewer wasn’t aware that this was a romance, they might have almost missed this aspect of the film entirely.

I loved this film!! It was just as amazing as Kites and has me excited to not only watch more films featuring Roshan and Bachchan, but other Hindi films in general. Something I found that I like about the Bollywood films I’ve seen so far is how musical they are. Some songs are in Hindu, others in English. Sometimes they’ll feature songs you’ll recognize, and the ones you don’t recognize are so catchy and beautiful. Also, even some of the dialogue is in English, which I appreciate. It is a long film, but I do highly recommend it, along with Kites. Watch it NOW. NAOHW!!!!

LIFE IN A…METRO: 2/5
So I tried another Bollywood film that was Netflix recommended. I figured since I loved Guzaarish and Kites, I might love this one too.

Unfortunately, how the musical element of Bollywood films was exercised in this movie actually detracted from the movie’s likeability.

There was a band that was shown singing throughout the film. They not only sung in between scenes, but also DURING some scenes. The singing was really distracting and cheesy. It was the equivalent to the cheerful ad that comes on during a Lifetime movie. Just completely ruins the mood of the film.

Besides the music, the movie wasn’t completely horrible. It just took me the first half of the film to start getting into the film because of the music. The plot of the film was extremely predictable, but the acting wasn’t bad. It was just mainly the music that killed the movie.

GOSSIP GIRL [Season 5]: 4/5
Sooooo I’ve been waiting to see how the romance between Dan and Blair developed, and now that I’ve seen it, I’m wondering if it will eventually go anywhere.

At this point, every main character has hooked up with each other except for Serena and Chuck. Honestly, it’s okay if that never happens. But Dan and Blair…not only is it hilarious to think about, considering how opposite from each other they are, but it is also delightful. They’re probably my favorite pairing. Maybe because I’d imagined so much earlier than before I found out they actually happened.

Now this whole “Blair’s pregnant” thing? Not cool. In fact, it really sucks and I hate it. None of the people on the show should get pregnant. It’s already bad enough Georgina is a mother…None of these people need to have kids, especially not while they’re so young.
Anyway, despite the baby-on-the-way, the show is still awesome.

GLEE [Season 3]: 5/5
This season is kind of a drag. The newcomers haven’t started pouring in yet, (I hear that’s more like Season 4) but the Irish kid is adorable and the Asperger’s chic is funny.

But I just don’t really see the show going anywhere interesting anymore. Even the music isn’t as fun to sing along with anymore. EXCEPT the Michael Jackson episode.

That was awesome AND LONG overdue. This show really needs to have more dance sequences with Artie out of his chair. But, yeah, the show is starting to be a drag. Hopefully, it’ll get better?

There once was a young boy with a very bad temper. The boy’s father wanted to teach him a lesson, so he gave him a bag of nails and told him that every time he lost his temper he must hammer a nail into their wooden fence.

On the first day of this lesson, the little boy had driven 37 nails into the fence. He was really mad!

Over the course of the next few weeks, the little boy began to control his temper, so the number of nails that were hammered into the fence dramatically decreased.

It wasn’t long before the little boy discovered it was easier to hold his temper than to drive those nails into the fence.

Then, the day finally came when the little boy didn’t lose his temper even once, and he became so proud of himself, he couldn’t wait to tell his father.

Pleased, his father suggested that he now pull out one nail for each day that he could hold his temper.

Several weeks went by and the day finally came when the young boy was able to tell his father that all the nails were gone.

Very gently, the father took his son by the hand and led him to the fence.

“You have done very well, my son,” he smiled, “but look at the holes in the fence. The fence will never be the same.”

The little boy listened carefully as his father continued to speak.

“When you say things in anger, they leave permanent scars just like these. And no matter how many times you say you’re sorry, the wounds will still be there.”
